Offline Inference is the process of using a trained machine-learning model to make predictions or decisions directly on a device without sending data to a remote server. The model is stored locally and processes new inputs, such as images, audio, or sensor readings, using the device’s available computing resources. This allows results to be produced even when an internet connection is unavailable.

For example, a factory camera can identify defective products locally without relying on cloud connectivity. This is useful when fast responses, privacy, or reliable operation are important. Applications include smartphones, industrial equipment, vehicles, healthcare devices, robotics, and remote systems.
