Event Prioritization is the process of ranking events according to their importance, urgency, or potential impact. It helps systems and teams distinguish critical events from routine activities so that attention and resources can be focused where they are needed most. Events may be prioritized using factors such as severity, business impact, frequency, or the risk associated with delayed action.

For example, an IT monitoring system may rank a complete service outage as critical, a performance slowdown as high priority, and a minor configuration warning as low priority. This allows support teams to address the most serious problems first. Event Prioritization is useful for incident management, cybersecurity, system monitoring, and business operations. It reduces alert overload, improves response times, and helps teams use their resources more effectively.
