Event Detection is the process of identifying specific activities, changes, or occurrences within a stream of data. It helps software recognize when something important happens by analyzing information from sources such as applications, sensors, devices, cameras, or system logs. Rules, patterns, or analytical models can be used to distinguish meaningful events from normal background activity and trigger an appropriate response.

For example, a security system can detect an unusual login attempt from an unfamiliar location and immediately generate an alert. Similarly, a factory sensor can detect an unexpected temperature increase in equipment. Event Detection is useful for security monitoring, fraud prevention, equipment management, system monitoring, and real-time operations. It helps organizations identify important situations quickly and respond before they develop into larger problems.
