Data Fabric is a data architecture that connects and manages information across databases, cloud platforms, data lakes, warehouses, and other environments through a unified layer. It uses technologies such as metadata management, data integration, automation, and machine learning to discover data, understand relationships, and make information accessible across complex IT environments.

Rather than requiring all data to be moved into one system, a Data Fabric helps organizations work with data where it already resides. It can support use cases such as combining customer information from cloud and on-premises systems or applying consistent governance across distributed datasets. Data Fabric is closely related to Data Mesh, data integration, and data governance.
