Business Process Intelligence (BPI) combines process data with analytical techniques to understand how business processes actually operate. It can examine event logs, transaction records, timestamps, and workflow data to reveal the sequence of activities, identify bottlenecks, measure process performance, and uncover deviations from the intended workflow. Unlike simply documenting a process, BPI evaluates what is happening in practice.

BPI is closely associated with process mining, business intelligence, and workflow analysis. For example, a company can analyze purchase-order records to discover where approvals are being delayed, how often orders bypass standard steps, and which activities contribute most to processing time. These findings can guide process redesign and targeted automation.
