Blockchain for IoT combines distributed ledger technology with connected devices to create a shared, tamper-resistant record of device activity, transactions, and data exchanges. Instead of relying entirely on a central server, participating devices or systems can verify and record events through a decentralized network. This can improve traceability and trust when devices from different organizations need to interact without a single controlling authority.

A practical example is a supply-chain sensor recording temperature readings while blockchain preserves a verifiable history of those events. Smart contracts can also automate actions when predefined conditions are met, such as releasing payment after a monitored delivery reaches its destination.
