Biometric Verification is the process of confirming that a person is who they claim to be by comparing a captured biological or behavioral characteristic with a previously enrolled reference. Unlike biometric identification, which searches for a person among many records, verification performs a one-to-one comparison. Common biometric traits include fingerprints, facial features, iris patterns, voice characteristics, and behavioral signals such as typing patterns.

The technology is used in scenarios where access or identity must be confirmed, including smartphone authentication, border control, banking, and workplace access systems. Modern solutions typically combine biometric sensors, feature extraction, matching algorithms, and decision thresholds. Security also depends on measures such as liveness detection, which helps distinguish a genuine person from photographs, recordings, or other presentation attacks.
