Augmented Intelligence refers to the use of artificial intelligence to enhance human capabilities rather than replace human judgment. The technology analyzes information, identifies patterns, generates recommendations, or automates routine parts of a task while people remain responsible for interpreting results and making decisions. It is therefore centered on human–AI collaboration rather than fully autonomous operation.
In industrial operations, for example, an augmented intelligence system can analyze equipment data, identify a potential fault, and recommend an appropriate maintenance action while an engineer reviews the evidence before acting. Similar approaches support medical diagnosis, financial analysis, customer service, and engineering. It commonly combines machine learning, predictive analytics, natural language processing, and decision-support systems.
