Asynchronous processing is a computing approach in which a system can start a task without waiting for that task to finish before continuing with other work. The task is handled independently, often in the background, and the system can receive or process its result later. This allows applications to remain responsive and handle multiple operations without forcing each task to execute sequentially.
For example, an application can accept a large file upload and continue serving other requests while the file is processed in the background. When processing is complete, the system can return a result, send a notification, or trigger another workflow. Message queues, event-driven architectures, background jobs, and asynchronous APIs commonly support this model.
