Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) refers to a hypothetical form of artificial intelligence capable of understanding, learning, reasoning, and applying knowledge across a wide range of tasks rather than being designed for a specific function. Unlike specialized AI systems that excel within defined domains, AGI would be able to adapt to unfamiliar problems, transfer knowledge between different tasks, and develop new strategies with limited task-specific programming.
AGI remains a research goal rather than an established technology. Developing it would require advances in areas such as reasoning, learning, memory, planning, multimodal understanding, and autonomous problem-solving. It is often discussed alongside technologies such as machine learning, large language models, robotics, and artificial neural networks, although these technologies do not by themselves constitute AGI.
