Application telemetry is the automated collection of data about how an application behaves, performs, and is used. It can capture information such as response times, error rates, request volumes, resource consumption, user interactions, and service dependencies. This data is typically sent to monitoring or observability platforms for analysis rather than being examined manually within the application itself.

For example, telemetry can show that an API endpoint has become slower after a software release or that a particular service is generating an unusual number of errors. Development and operations teams use these signals to troubleshoot failures, measure application performance, identify trends, and understand how changes affect production systems. Common telemetry types include logs, metrics, and traces.
