Object Localization is a computer vision technique that identifies an object in an image and determines where it appears. Unlike simple image classification, which only identifies what is present, localization also provides the object’s position, commonly using a bounding box around it. A machine-learning model analyzes visual features and predicts the location and category of relevant objects within the image.
For example, a security camera can locate people, vehicles, or packages in a monitored area. This is useful because it helps systems understand their surroundings and respond to specific objects. Applications include autonomous vehicles, medical image analysis, robotics, surveillance, and automated quality inspection.
