Object counting is a computer vision technique used to determine how many instances of a particular object appear within an image or video. An AI model detects individual objects and keeps track of them to produce an accurate count, even when multiple objects are present in the same scene.

For example, a retail system can use cameras to count products moving along a conveyor belt, while a traffic-monitoring system can count vehicles passing through an intersection. More advanced systems can distinguish between different object categories and maintain counts as objects enter or leave a monitored area. Object counting is widely used in manufacturing, retail, traffic management, agriculture, logistics, security, and smart-city applications.
