Object classification is the process of identifying what type or category an object belongs to based on information captured by an AI system. In computer vision, a model analyzes visual features such as shape, color, texture, and patterns to assign an object to a predefined category.

For example, an AI-powered camera can distinguish between cars, bicycles, pedestrians, and delivery vehicles in a street scene. The system can then use these classifications to support automated decisions, such as traffic analysis, security monitoring, inventory management, or robotic navigation. Object classification is widely used in computer vision, autonomous vehicles, robotics, industrial inspection, smart surveillance, retail analytics, and medical imaging.
