Node-RED is a visual programming tool used to connect devices, applications, APIs, and data services through a flow-based interface. It allows users to build automation workflows by arranging functional nodes and connecting them to define how information moves between different systems. Because much of the logic can be created visually, Node-RED can simplify the development of integrations without requiring large amounts of traditional code.

For example, an IoT system can receive temperature readings from sensors, process the incoming data, and trigger an alert or control a device when a specified condition is met. Node-RED is commonly used for IoT applications, industrial automation, smart buildings, edge computing, API integration, data processing, and rapid prototyping.
