A Network Video Recorder (NVR) is a device or software system that receives, processes, and stores video from network-connected cameras. Unlike traditional recorders that may rely on direct camera connections, an NVR communicates with IP cameras through a computer network. It can organize recordings, manage camera feeds, support playback, and provide features such as motion-based recording, remote access, and event alerts.

For example, a retail store can connect multiple IP cameras to an NVR and continuously record activity while allowing staff to review footage from a central system. This simplifies video management and helps preserve evidence when incidents occur. NVRs are widely used in security systems, offices, warehouses, transportation facilities, campuses, and industrial sites.
