IoT, or the Internet of Things, refers to physical devices that connect to the internet to collect, share, and sometimes act on data. These devices can include appliances, vehicles, sensors, wearables, and machines. They use sensors to gather information, communicate through networks, and often use software to process the data and trigger actions automatically.

For example, a smart irrigation system can use connected soil sensors to measure moisture levels and automatically control watering when the soil becomes too dry. This reduces unnecessary water use and keeps plants healthier. IoT is useful in homes, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, energy, and businesses. It can improve efficiency, automate routine tasks, provide useful insights, reduce resource consumption, and enable devices to work together with less manual effort.
