A graph database is a type of database designed to store and manage data based on relationships between entities. It represents entities as nodes and their connections as edges, allowing applications to explore how different pieces of information are related. Unlike traditional relational databases, which organize data primarily into tables and rows, graph databases make connected information easier to navigate and analyze.

Graph databases are commonly used for social networks, recommendation systems, fraud detection, knowledge graphs, identity management, and network analysis. For example, an e-commerce platform can connect customers, products, purchases, and preferences to identify relationships and provide relevant recommendations. Graph databases are particularly useful when relationships are complex, frequently changing, or as important as the individual data values themselves.
