Face Recognition is a computer vision technology that analyzes a detected face and compares its distinctive features with stored facial information to determine or verify a person’s identity. It typically examines patterns such as the shape and arrangement of facial features, converts them into a digital representation, and compares that representation with known profiles. Unlike Face Detection, which only locates faces, Face Recognition focuses on identifying or verifying individuals.

For example, an authorized access system can use a camera to verify a person’s face before allowing entry to a secure facility. It can also be used for device authentication and identity verification. Face Recognition is useful for security, access control, fraud prevention, and convenient authentication, helping reduce reliance on passwords or physical credentials.
