Barcode recognition is the process of using cameras, scanners, or computer vision software to detect and interpret machine-readable patterns that represent information such as product identifiers, inventory codes, or tracking data. The system captures the barcode, identifies its structure, decodes the encoded information, and converts it into digital data that can be processed by another application or database.
In warehouses and manufacturing environments, barcode recognition supports activities such as inventory tracking, material identification, order fulfillment, and production traceability. A camera-based system, for example, can automatically identify labeled components as they move along a conveyor and associate each item with its corresponding record in an inventory or production system. Common formats include one-dimensional barcodes and two-dimensional codes such as QR codes and Data Matrix codes.
