Autonomous surveillance is the use of AI-enabled cameras, drones, sensors, or robotic systems to continuously observe an environment and identify relevant events without requiring an operator to monitor every feed manually. These systems can detect objects, unusual activity, restricted-area access, equipment conditions, or other predefined events and generate alerts or initiate automated responses.
In industrial facilities, autonomous surveillance can monitor warehouses, production areas, pipelines, perimeter zones, and remote infrastructure. For example, an AI-enabled camera system can recognize an unauthorized entry or detect a person entering a hazardous zone and immediately raise an alert. Computer vision, edge computing, thermal imaging, sensor fusion, and autonomous drones are commonly used to support these capabilities.
