SPGS

Alert suppression is the practice of temporarily preventing selected alerts from being generated, displayed, or escalated when they are known to be irrelevant, expected, or already represented by another event. The goal is not to hide genuine problems, but to reduce duplicate or predictable notifications that can distract operators and obscure important signals.

In IT monitoring, for example, planned server maintenance may trigger multiple alarms even though the activity is authorized and expected. Suppression rules can silence those alerts for a defined period while preserving visibility into unrelated failures. It is commonly used alongside alert correlation, maintenance windows, deduplication, and alert management to reduce noise without compromising operational awareness.
